Baseball results vs. Ft. Wayne Canterbury

The Howe Wildcats lost to Ft. Wayne Canterbury 16-4. The Wildcats held a 2-2 lead until the third inning when Canterbury erupted for 9 runs. Leading the wildcats was DJ VanOrden with 2 hits and a walk. Also, getting hits for the Wildcats were Pat Fisher, Blake Sopko and Tony Wicks.  VanOrden also had 3 steals. The Wildcats play next against LaPorte Lalumeire on Tuesday. The Wildcats are 4-9.

Last night the lower school golf team took 2nd place in a three team tournament.  Their team score of 239 was their lowest score of the season.  Cadet Grant was the Medalist for the match, shooting a round of 41.  Cadet Bedke was 6th with a round of 45.  D’Anniballe, Jones and Wenzel rounded out the scoring with a 50, 51, and 52 respectively.

Lower School Track results vs. Fremont

Last night the lower school track team took on Fremont in a dual meet between two pretty evenly matched teams.  The lower school lost 41-67, mostly due to the fact that we do not compete in pole vault and so, got swept in that event.  The events that we did compete in, we were very competitive in.  Scoring for Howe yesterday were:

 

David Bedke – 1st in Long Jump (15’0”), 3rd 400 Dash (1:12 – A personal best)

John Malone – 1st in High Jump (5’0”), 2nd 1600 (5:29), 1st 800 (2:26)

John Kincaid – 1st Discus (100’ 10”), 2nd Shot Put (36’ 21/2”)

Kyle Boyles – 1st Shot Put (36’ 10”), 3rd 200 (33.84)

Jonathan Nelson – 2nd 110 M Hurdles (22.31)

Bedke, Kincaid, Boyles, and Nathaniel Wallwork – 1st 4 x 100 Relay (58.57)

 

Posting personal bests yesterday were:

 

AJ Verhagen – 24.02 in hurdles, 1:38 in 400

The 4 x 100 Relay Team of Nick Berkes, Galen Dockery, Verhagen, and Lavelle Gowder – 1:09.13

 

Please congratulate the team members when you see them on a job well done.  There is only one meet left this season, the conference tournament at Churubusco, where our two best athletes in each event will compete for all conference honors next Monday.  Wish them luck!!  Once again, thanks to the lower school golf team for letting us borrow Cadets Bedke and Verhagen.  They were solid contributors for us down the stretch!

Lower School Track results vs. Fairfield/Central Noble

Last Thursday the Lower School track team took on Fairfield and Central Noble in a huge double dual tournament.  We started at 4:45 and didn’t finish until almost 8:00.  It was cold, and we had a lot of down time, but the team did a very solid job against much bigger competition.  Athletes scoring in this double dual were:

 

Kyle Boyles – 1st Place Shot put against both schools (A personal best of 37’9”), 3rd place 100 against both schools (14.99), 3rd place 200 against both schools (31.7)

John Kincaid – 2nd place shot put vs. Central Noble, 3rd place shot put vs. Fairfield (A personal best of 35’ 9”).

David Bedke – 2nd place long jump vs. Fairfield, 3rd place long jump vs. Central Noble (A personal best of 15’ 31/2”)

Jonathan Nelson – 3rd place 110 M hurdles vs. both schools (21.9)

Nathaniel Wallwork – 3rd place 400 vs. both schools (1:09.4)

Eric Allgood – 3rd place discus vs. both schools (A personal best of 51’ 101/2”)

 

Other personal bests set in this meet were:

 

Eric Allgood – 15’ 3” in shot put

Eric Mandel – 19’ 11/2” in shot put

Chang Hoon Lee – 1:21 in 400

The 4 x 100 Relay team of Boyles, Bedke, Kincaid, and Wallwork – 58.02

Baseball team drops conference game against Lakewood Park

The Howe Wildcats dropped a conference game against Lakewood Park 10-3 on Tuesday. DJ  Van Orden went the distance on the hill for the Wildcats striking out 5 and walking one. The wildcats were plagued with 7 errors despite 6 hits from Zach Pagels, Jon Patterson, Pat Fisher, Mark Miller, Mike Mori and VanOrden. The Wildcats play next at home against Ft. Canterbury on Thursday. The Wildcats are now 3-7.

Varsity track results vs. Fremont

 

JJ Weidner took 2nd in the long jump, 3rd in the 100M dash, 2nd in the 4x100 relay, and 2nd in the 4x400 relay.

Daniel Wilson took 3rd in the long jump, 3rd in the 110M high hurdles, 2nd in the 4x100 relay, and 1st in the 300M hurdles with a personal best time of 46 seconds. 

Eddie Englund took 2nd in the mile, and 2nd in the 800M run, and 2nd in the 4x400 relay.

Ben Robbins took 3rd in the mile.

Hai bin Zheng took 3rd in the 400M dash, and 2nd in the 4x400 relay.

Je Seung Woo took 3rd in the 200M dash, and 2nd in the 4x100 relay.

Graham Mclaren took 1st in the 2 miles.

 

 

Lower school track results vs. Fairfield/Prairie Heights

 

Last night the lower school track team took on the elements, illness, and Fairfield and Prairie Heights in a double dual meet at Prairie Heights.  We were shorthanded, as Kyle Boyles, John Kincaid, Mike Grady, and Jonathan Malone each missed some or all of their events due to injury or illness.  The final score of the meets have not yet been tallied, as Prairie Heights is still sorting them out and will mail the results to us sometime, but we do know a few of the team members who placed last night.

 

Jonathan Malone – 1st place High Jump vs. Fairfield and Prairie Heights (4’8”); 1st place 1600 vs. Prairie Heights, 2nd place 1600 vs. Fairfield with a personal best time of 5:13.

Michael Grady – 3rd place hurdles vs. Fairfield and Prairie Heights with a personal best time of 21.3

David Bedke – 3rd place 100 vs. Fairfield and Prairie Heights (14.69)

Lavelle Gowder – 3rd place 200 vs. Fairfield and Prairie Heights (35.9)

Christina Rabb – 3rd place 200 vs. Fairfield and Prairie Heights Girls (39.2)

 

Other personal bests logged last night were:

 

Eric Mandel – 18’2” in shot put, 53’5” in disc.

Jeffrey Bonnet – 17’ ½” in shot put, 42’ 1” in disc.

Chris Schauer – 19.63 in 100 M

David Bedke – 14’ 8 Ύ” in long jump (this may be enough for him to place against one or both schools)

The 4x400 Relay Team of Malone, Nathaniel Wallwork, Chang Hoon Lee, and Bedke – 4:52.09

 

The lower school team takes on Fairfield and Central Noble in another double dual at home on Thursday.  Please congratulate them on a job well done last night, and wish them luck this Thursday!

Thanks to those who came out to support the Lower School Golf team during the MAC tournament last Friday.

 

The team dropped the match to Cantebury (229) and Lakewood Park (273) finishing in 3rd place with a score of 281.

 

The loss brings the season record to 4-5.  The team returns to action next Monday, May 5, 2008.
