Making Summers Count
How can you make your
summers count? By coming to Howe Military School’s summer camp, where boys ages
9 to 15 discover a world of fun and challenge for three- and six-week sessions.
The Camp Program*
Howe’s Summer Camp Program combines a broad range of exciting outdoor
recreational activities with academic work and leadership training. At
Howe, campers:
Play sports:
For boys (age
10 to 14), we’ve developed an “Intensive Sports” program that
features a different sport – including soccer, baseball, basketball —
for one week each three week session.
Have fun: It’s uncommon fun:
horse back riding, SCUBA, water sports, archery, boating, sailing and a
high ropes course. The weekends are packed with camp games, open swimming,
a church service and field trips. Every day of the week there’s personal
attention from trained instructors who help each child develop sports
skills, confidence and self-reliance.
Train to lead:
Military training is a daily part of the camp program: drill instruction
and exercises that stress courtesy, prompt attention to orders and the
essentials of leadership. Such training helps young men develop orderliness, self-discipline and social skills.
Enjoy nature:
Located on the shores of beautiful Cedar Lake (four miles from
the campus of Howe Military School) at Howe, Indiana, the camp’s grounds
include 55 acres of woodland and open countryside.
Learn to excel: At Howe, we play hard. But we also work hard, and
campers benefit from Howe’s tradition of academic excellence. The emphasis
of camp life is on recreational activities. However,
boys also receive review instruction in mathematics and English —
which includes reading, comprehension, and grammar — subjects that are the
foundation for all other learning.
Boys about to enter 9th or 10th grade take high school credit courses in
either Algebra or English. These classes follow the college preparatory
curriculum of Howe Military School and enable high school students to earn
one-half unit of academic credit for first-semester English or mathematics.
*Disclaimer: Howe Summer Camp is
not staffed or equipped to help students who need any kind of learning
accommodations. This includes needs such as resource room, special
tutoring, extra test-taking time, or staff to accompany students. Howe
cannot accept students with learning disabilities or severe emotional
diagnoses. The programs, staff, or therapeutic counselors necessary to
assist students with special needs are not available at Howe.
