Visitors to Campus

Cadets are not permitted to invite any visitors into the barracks without the prior approval of the Commandant or the Tactical Officer.  As a general rule, cadets can only receive visitors on weekends.  Classroom visitations by a guest of a cadet must obtain prior approval of the Headmaster (Upper School) or Principal (Lower School).   Young ladies or young men visiting cadets must be chaperoned by a parent/guardian or faculty member and the visitation may only take place in the company lounge of the cadet being visited (or in the Canteen), and the cadet’s Tactical Officer must be notified.  Visiting hours for approved guests on campus is posted in the lounge of each barracks.

Cadets who have been dismissed or withdrawn are not allowed on campus without prior approval from the Commandant or Superintendent.  Moreover, these individuals must be accompanied at all times by their parent or guardian, only.  Former cadets or graduates may not visit barracks except during posted visiting hours.

HMS encourages parental involvement in the life of the cadet.  Attendance at sporting events, plays, parades, parent weekends, and other activities is generally good for cadet morale and performance.  Similarly, taking the cadet out “on pass” or home for open or merit weekends and breaks is also encouraged, as authorized by the Commandant.  There are however, times when visitation is not a positive event.  Frequent visits to the barracks when the cadet is not authorized a pass, and particularly during the plebe orientation period, can be counter productive to both the cadet and school.  Such visits are therefore discouraged and may not be authorized.  In all cases, approval for the parent to enter the barracks must be obtained from either the Commandant or the company TAC Officer in advance.  Your cooperation in respecting the stated desire to not have a visit take place will be appreciated and perhaps avoid future unpleasantness.

ALL VISITORS (including alumni) to the campus shall report to the department head directly concerned with their business.  A separate policy directive governs campus access for military recruiters.  No person is permitted to visit a cadet without prior clearance by the Superintendent, Commandant, Headmaster or Principal.
