On the 14th of November Howe’s JROTC program received its triennial evaluation from inspectors from the 9th ROTC Brigade, Great Lakes, IL and instructors from the JROTC program at Norte Dame University South Bend, IN.  Our program received 595 points out of a possible 600 points. This inspection is good for three years and combined with the annual unit report will insure that we regain and maintain our Honor Unit with Distinction status. The official designation will be made in August of 2007.

Our cadets had been preparing for this inspection since last spring when cadets Pelfrey Lassiter, Bedke and Darrell, then juniors, visited an Indianapolis school to observe their triennial inspection. They took that experience and with the help of this years cadet leadership systematically prepared for the inspection. The cadets worked on drill and ceremonies, rejuvenating the rifle and drill teams and insuring that cadet records were in order. Further Col Douglass and MSG Satterfield completed their accreditation processes to include attending the resident instructor’s course sponsored by the Army. All came together on that over cast Tuesday when the cadets proved they are not “the average Bear”. When the smoke settled, the cadets had earned 595 points; this is one of the highest scores that the chief inspector has ever awarded to a JROTC unit in 9th Brigade. All of our cadets deserve a great deal of credit as they all had a part in this success. But the cadets could not have done as well as they did with out the support of the masters who patiently gave of their time to allow the cadets to prepare for the inspection. It was truly a team effort that regained our Honor Unit with Distinction status.
