Major Place is a 1958 graduate of Howe Military School and a 1959 post graduate of Avon Old Farms School, Avon CT. While at HMS he was the School Head Waiter which inspired him to pursue Restaurant & Hotel Management at Cornwell University graduating in 1972.
Major Place entered the US Army in 1960. After completing an Infantry Tour I Germany where he saw duty in Berlin, Germany during the Berlin Wall Crisis, He attended military intelligence school and German Language School. He was commissioned as a counter intelligence officer in 1967 serving in Command and Staff positions in both the U.S.A. and overseas. That included two tours in Vietnam as an Intelligence advisor where he was awarded three bronze stars for his achievements. Prior to leaving the army in 1982, Maj. Place managed the Officer and Enlisted clubs at Ft. Devons, MA and also served five years as Operations Officer for the Southwest Region Recruiting Command.
After leaving the service, Major Place started up his own private business as a Food Service Brokerage company. In June 2006 Maj. Place sold his business to devote management & Interpersonal skills to the Howe Corps of Cadets. Maj. Place is married to the former Deborah Craig of Amarillo TX. They have two sons, Kenneth and Tyrus III. Tyrus III is currently a junior at Howe Military School.
