Tom Hoffman joined the HMS family and is teaching sophomore and senior English,
in addition to AP Composition. He is also coaching wrestling. Before
graduation from I.U.S.B. with a degree in English eduacation, Mr. Hoffman served
in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a child support debt collector
for several years. He jokingly says, "that is why I'm still single."
Although learning to read before kindergarten, Hoffman struggled with what
the doctors labeled "delayed motor functioning" and hyperactivity, now
identified as ADD. Struggling early on as a student directed his career
choice and helped to develop his teaching philosophy that anyone can succeed if
they try hard and are given both direction and an outreaching hand from their
elders.
When Mr. Hoffman is not in his room, he enjoys cooking, playing basketball,
fishing, pyrography, writing poetry, political science and reading.
