Master Sergeant Satterfield was born 14 August 1957 in Camden, New Jersey. He attended and graduated from Camden High School in 1976. He entered the United States Army on 21 September 1977. He attended basic training and advanced individual training for Nike Hercules Missile Crewmember at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 1985 he attended a transition course to become a Patriot Missile Crewmember in Fort Bliss, Texas. MSG Satterfield began his Air Defense Artillery career in leadership positions as assistant section chief and section chief, Nike Hercules Missile Crewmember; and section chief, platoon sergeant and first sergeant duties as a Patriot Missile Crewmember. His military assignments have been with Bravo Battery 3-71 ADA (HERCULES), Stuttgart, Germany (77-80); Bravo Battery HQ Command, Fort Bliss, Texas (80-82); Alpha Battery 2-56 ADA (HERCULES), Geinsheim, Germany (82-85); Alpha Battery Staff and Faculty Battalion (PATRIOT), Fort Bliss, Texas (85-86); Bravo Battery 2-3 / 4-7 ADA (PATRIOT), Dexheim, Germany (86-89); Charlie Battery 3-43 ADA, (PATRIOT), Fort Bliss, Texas (90-93);Operation Desert Storm (27 Sept 90-6 May 91) and Operation Desert Sentry (21 Jun 92-12 Nov 92) Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Howe Military School, Howe, Indiana as a Army Instructor (93-97). His professional education includes the Primary Leadership Course, Basic Leadership Course, Advanced Leadership Course, Nuclear Warhead Assembly Course, Combat Life Saving Course, German Head Start Course, and Instructor Training Course. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leave Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leave Cluster) /with V-Device, Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leave Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 Bronze Service Stars), Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (Advanced Level), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA), Kuwait Liberation Medal (KU), M16 Rifle Sharpshooter Qualification Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Valorous Unit Award, and Army Superior Unit Award.
