Dr. Duane D. VanOrden is a 1977 graduate of Howe Military School. He attended Summer Camp for five years and Lower and Upper School for six years. He graduated as a Cadet Captain and with Cum Laude Honors. Dr. VanOrden received many academic and athletic awards at Howe and is one of only two Howe graduates to be honored with all three Leadership Swords at the school. Howe was always in his heart and in 1994 Dr. VanOrden was able to return to Howe as a Master and Coach. He remained in those positions until 1999 when he became the Principal of the Lower School. Subsequently, he became Superintendent in May, 2002. Dr. VanOrden has attended Manatee Community College, University of South Florida, St. Francis University, Nova University, Ball State University and Nova Southeastern University. He holds degrees of Bachelor of Science, Masters of Arts, Masters of Business Administration and his PhD in Education. He received his Teacher Certification while attending Saint Francis University and his Administration License through Ball State University. Over the last thirteen years, Dr. VanOrden has served as Old Guard Advisor, VHC Advisor, Varsity Soccer and Baseball Coach and has been the Summer Camp Director. He has been named the Midland Athletic Conference Coach of the Year twice in soccer and baseball. Dr. VanOrden has coached Youth and High School Soccer and Baseball for 29 years.
