Dan Ostenson enlisted in the U.S. Army, March 1974 at Fort Jackson,
South Carolina, and retired April 1996 after serving 22 years of active
duty. He completed two tours at Fort Campbell, Kentucky,
two tours in Germany, and Fort Sill Oklahoma. Some of his positions
of responsibility include; squad leader of a
mechanized infantry squad, instructor at Primary Leadership
Development Course, Senior Drill Sergeant of an One Station Unit
Training (OSUT) unit, Operation
Sergeant/Scheduling Noncommissioned Officer at the company, battalion, and brigade level.
Some of Dan's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Good
Conduct Medal (6th award), Army Achievement Medal (5th award), and the
National
Defense Service Medal (2nd award).
After leaving the Army, Dan worked at a youth placement facility in
Pennsylvania for seven years. His primary responsibilities included
the supervision and counseling of adolescents under his care. Cpt.
Ostenson has five children and one granddaughter.
