(Lansing, MI) - Charles Koop, Antrim County Prosecutor since 1990, was elected President of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM), the association announced today. Koop will lead Michigan's Prosecutors until August 2008
"Charlie Koop is a career prosecutor who's ended the careers of a lot of offenders," Attorney General Mike Cox said. "He's fought the good fight to work tirelessly for victims and for law enforcement. He's a great choice to lead."
Koop was recognized for his long-term commitment to the citizens of Antrim County , and he affirmed that commitment in a speech made to the membership.
"As an association, we need to continue to improve the situation for victims in the criminal justice system," Koop said. He emphasized that during his term of office, PAAM will work to strengthen criminal justice in Michigan.
"I have great confidence
in the leadership of Antrim County Prosecutor Charles
Koop," said past president Ron Frantz. "We will all
benefit from Charlie's experience, common sense, and
concern for crime victims as he leads us through these
challenging times."
"Charlie Koop has been a PA for 17 years who is deeply committed to public safety in his community and the crime victims he represents," said Dave Gorcyca, Immediate Past President of PAAM. "Charlie is also an advocate for criminal justice reform and laws that hold offenders accountable."
