Costs and Financial Aid

Costs for the entire 2008-2009 school year:
            (August 20 - May 30)

A $100 non-refundable application fee is required when an application is submitted.

Tuition, room, board, and fees for the 2008-2009 school year total $21,300.  In addition, we require a $3,700 deposit for new cadets, which is an average cadet expense to cover uniforms, books, fees, and estimated expenses. Expenses over the deposit are due as billed at the close of each month. Any unused balance of this deposit carries to the next school year.

To take advantage of both the internet and intranet, the technology program requires Upper School cadets to rent a Wyse terminal for network access stored in each cadet's barrack room. The cost for the school year is $300.00.

Lower school cadets pay a $25 technology fee for access to e-mail and internet privileges. (Lower school cadets do not have terminals in their rooms)

Breakdown of cost for the school year:

The Basic Payment Plan requires full payment of $25,000.00 by entrance date. A Deferred Payment Plan is available at an added cost of $400.00; this requires 60% of the total cost at registration and the remaining 40% due on or before December 10th.  A Monthly Payment Plan is available at an additional $600 cost; this requires 10 equal monthly installments starting in March and due on or before December 10th.

Financial Aid
Howe uses a variety of approaches to financial aid. Most of the scholarship funds are used to help deserving cadets who have proven financial need. To assist as many students as possible, we provide small scholarships to many families, as opposed to granting large awards to only a limited number of students. The average award is about $4,000. About 40 percent of our students receive some form of financial aid.

Financial aid is awarded on a year-to-year basis. To apply for financial aid, the student's parent(s) must submit an Application for Financial Assistance along with a copy of their most recent Federal Income Tax Form 1040. Financial aid awards include work-aid, music and academic scholarships; legacy and sibling discounts are also available.
A student will not be awarded financial aid until the he/she is accepted to the school.

The Junior Ring Ceremony

One of Howe Military Schools' tradition is the Junior Ring Ceremony.  The origin of this tradition is obscured, but the graduating cadets and the junior class meet in Saint James Chapel. During the services overseen by the rector, the Senior Class presents the Junior Class with their class rings and charges them with the status of continuing the customs and traditions of Howe Military School. The junior class, after accepting the charge, prepares the Senior Class for their commencement by turning their ring to show completion of secondary education.

The faculty and staff of Howe Military School are committed to providing a structured environment in which learning can and does occur; and with the support of parents, alumni, friends, and the dedicated effort of the students themselves, to produce the leaders of the next generation.

The foundation of our mission is our mottos: "FIDES ET HONOR" (Faith and Honor) and "ECCLESIAE ET PATRIAE" (God and Country)

*Disclaimer Howe Military School is a traditional, college preparatory, secondary boarding school.  Though classes are small, our school is not staffed or equipped to help students who need any kind of learning accommodations.  This includes needs such as resource room, special tutoring, extra test-taking time, or staff to accompany students.  Howe cannot accept students with learning disabilities or severe emotional diagnoses.  The programs, staff, or therapeutic counselors necessary to assist students with special needs are not available at Howe.
